The Staples field hockey team won its first game of the season and the first for new coach Ian Tapsall, cruising past Stamford 4-0 on Saturday at Ginny Parker Field.

Meghan Johnson scored twice and had an assist for the Wreckers, who had 16 shots on goal and seven penalty corners. Gabby Vega and Jordan Ragland also scored goals.

The Staples defense held Stamford to zero shots and one penalty corner.

The Wreckers host Trumbull on Tuesday.
