The Staples boys indoor track team had its final dress rehearsal for Thursday’s FCIAC championships with a second-place finish at the FCIAC Western Division Championships, which took place on Saturday at the Staples Fieldhouse. The Wreckers (129.5 points) won four events to claim the runner-up spot behind Danbury, which won with 154.5 points.

The two schools will likely battle it out for the FCIAC crown at Hillhouse High School on Thursday, and they combined to win the majority of the events at the Fieldhouse. Zak Ahmad took first in the 1,600 (4:33.45) and second in the 3,200 (10:09.11). Teammate Brandon Harrington finished first in the 3,200 (10:08.92), while Israel Strouse won the shut put (44-08.5) and the 4x400 relay team took first in 3:38.60.

The Wreckers girls team (65) placed fourth behind Danbury (144), Greenwich (111), and Ridgefield (80). The 4x240 relay team finished second in 2:21.73 while sophomore Elysse McCambley (12:05.13) finished second in the 3,200.
