Katherine Zhou, a senior at Staples High School, has been selected for the first violin section of the 2013 National Association for Music Education All-National Honor Orchestra.

She is concertmaster of the Staples Symphonic and Chamber Orchestras, Norwalk Youth Symphony and Connecticut Western Region Orchestra, and has been a member of the Connecticut All-State Orchestra and All-Eastern U.S. NAfME Honors Orchestra, according to an announcement from the Staples High School Music Department.

She has also performed as a soloist at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, performed at Tanglewood, at the Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall, throughout Europe, and has won several awards including the Musical Club of Hartford High School String Competition, the American Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competition, and the American Protege International Concerto Competition, among others.

The All-National Orchestra will be conducted by Miriam Burns of the New York Philharmonic and will perform at a concert on Oct. 30 in Nashville, Tenn.
