With an 11-game winning streak in conference play, the Staples High School boys soccer team is positioning itself to compete for the FCIAC championship. And excitement is building in Westport as the Wreckers continue to give credence to its reputation as a center of soccer success.

Staples (12-2-1, 11-2-1 FCIAC) will look to close its regular season with another win when it plays Bassick at Went Field in Bridgeport at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Win or lose, Staples will open the FCIAC tournament at home on at 3 p.m. Friday against a team to be determined.

"This is the best time of year for Staples soccer," said Coach Dan Woog. "Our guys know what it's like to play important games in front of big crowds. They've been tested often during the regular season, but that's nothing compared to what lies ahead. We have a core of veteran seniors, and they are determined to finish their varsity careers giving it everything they've got. If you're a Staples soccer player -- or fan -- it doesn't get any better than this."
