Town officials are hoping an army of rake-toting residents will answer the call for a townwide spring clean-up during Green-up Westport Day on Saturday, April 20.

The event is co-sponsored by the Westport Beautification Committee and Westport Parks and Recreation Department. Parks and Recreation Director Stuart McCarthy said letters were sent to 60 civic organizations and community groups, asking them to participate by adopting specific outdoor areas to clean up.

Officials also are appealing to residents to clean up litter along their streets or any public spaces.

McCarthy asked that groups call Parks and Recreation at 203-341-5091 before Saturday to report what properties they plan to clean and during what hours. The town will collect bagged debris from those spots, he said.

Free trash bags may be picked up on Saturday, April 20, between 9 and 11 a.m. at Jesup Green, where Beautification Committee volunteers will be conducting their clean-up.
