Solarize Westport, a town-sponsored solar group purchasing program offered in partnership with the state, will host a barbecue and demonstration of a solar array being installed on a private Westport home on Saturday, Dec. 8.

It will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the home of Gideon Malino at 9 Loren Lane. He is one of the town's residents participating in the program, which ends Dec. 14, to receive discounts on solar, according to a release.

Malino will pay $6,700 -- or half of conventional market prices -- for installation of the 5.28-kilowatt system through the program. He can expect a payback in six years, thus leaving him 19 years of clean, free energy.

The barbecue will begin at noon.

Malino and Glenn Cucinell, of Encon Solar, Westport's Solarize Connecticut installer, will be available to answer questions on the program.
