Sleeping driver faces drug charges in Westport

Matthew Gromiller, 40, of Easton was arrested Thursday at approximately 3:30 p.m. after reportedly being found with a controlled substance.
Officers were dispatched to North Turkey Hill Road to check on Gromiller, who was reportedly sleeping in his vehicle. The officers reportedly observed Gromiller then leave the site and later stopped him.
While speaking with officers, Gromiller reportedly told them that he had a pipe used to smoke crack cocaine in his pocket and on the side of the driver's seat. Officers also reportedly found a small bag of crack cocaine in the vehicle.
Gromiller was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Gromiller was remanded to custody after a computer check reportedly showed that he was on parole. He is scheduled to appear July 28 in Norwalk Superior Court.
