Shays to speak before Sunrise Rotary

Westport Sunrise Rotary will host a talk by former U.S. rep. Christopher Shays -- a candidate for this year's Republican U.S. Senate nomination -- at its weekly breakfast meeting on Friday, Feb.10. The meeting starts at 7:30 a.m. in Bobby Q's Bodacious Bar & Grill, 42 Main St.

Shays will speak on leadership as it pertains to experience from listening, learning and leading, according to a Sunrise Rotary news release.

Shays represented southwestern Connecticut from 1987 to 2009 in Congress. While a member of Congress, he was a senior member of the House Oversight and Government Reform, Budget, Financial Services, and Homeland Security Committees and also chaired the House Oversight Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats, and International Relations.

In 2009, Shays was appointed co-chairman of the federal Commission on Wartime Contracting in Iraq and Afghanistan. He serves on the board of directors of North Highland, a management and technology consulting firm based in Atlanta, and was a commissioner of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the release states.

Shays grew up in Darien, lived in Stamford for over 30 years and now resides in Bridgeport.

Guests are welcome to the talk. There is a $12 fee for the meeting which includes a breakfast buffet.
