As their first act of returning to duty in the Westport Fire Department, Lt. Tom Richmond and Firefighter Nick Marsan lowered the service flag that has been flying on the pole at Fire Department headquarters since they left for Afghanistan and Iraq.
Richmond and Marsan served in the war zones with the Connecticut National Guard.
Richmond, a master sergeant, was in Iraq with the National Guard 143 ASG as a medic with the Logistical Military Advisory Team. He advised the Iraq medical commander in Wasit Province.
Marsan, a staff sergeant, was stationed in Afghanistan with A Company, I-102 INF for Task Force Iron Grays. He was part of the Joint Operations with the Afghan Army in the Laghman Province.
"The Westport Fire Department is proud of the service Tom and Nick have done for their country and is grateful for their return to us," Assistant Fire Chief Robert Yost said in a statement. "Please take a moment to remember those brave men and women who continue to serve on our behalf."
