The Staples High School group, SLOBS (Service League of Boys,) is planning its annual Service Sunday community service day on Sunday, May 4. The organization has taken on plenty of projects for that day when its members will repair, clean and restore facilities for nonprofit groups.
"SLOBS is dedicated to helping out Westport and its surrounding towns in any way possible. From helping rebuild from storms like Sandy, to conducting daily tutoring sessions with elementary level kids in Bridgeport, to bringing full meals to the Gillespie Center every week, SLOBS members truly do it all," said Noah Prince, a member of the group.
Service Sunday takes place on the first Sunday of May every year and is a full day of community service for all members. This year's SLOBS' projects for Service Sunday are: painting, spring cleanup and building a path to Crescent Road at Linxweiler House; repairing, and painting a fence at Project Return; washing 20 canoes, maintaining trails and wildlife areas and gardening at Earthplace; cleaning barn and artifacts at Westport Historical Society; gardening, and creating a new patio area with a picnic table at Powell House Saugatuck Apartments; spring cleanup and gardening at ABC House; cleaning out and painting lockers at Compo Beach; working on the town's Wakeman Farm, including installation of a goat fence; and cleanup of numerous Westport roads.
SLOBS is open to all boys grades 9-12. Visit http://shsslobs.com/service-sunday/ for more information.
