The Westport Center for Senior Activities has planned the following programs in the next week:

Tuesday, Aug. 13: A program on palliative care, an emerging trend in caring for chronically ill people, will be offered from 1 to 2 p.m. Registered nurse Lynda Tucker will give an overview of the specialized care, which focuses on easing the symptoms of the illness -- whether pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, constipation, nausea, loss of appetite or others -- to reduce stress and improve the patient's quality of life. The discussion aims to help family members and caregivers assess whether palliative care should be considered for a loved one.

Thursday, Aug. 15: A workshop on the art of stamping will be offered from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Art-studio owner Joyce Bottone will lead the session, during which participants can make five hand-stamped all-occasion greeting cards. The cost is $5 and includes all materials.

Thursday, Aug. 15: Dietitian Holly Betts will conduct a class in healthy cooking for one or for couples from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the center's kitchen. The center said the focus will be on making meal preparation fun. Participants will prepare a fresh tomato-parmesan tart and apple spinach salad with maple Dijon vinaigrette. The cost is $6, and space is limited.

Saturday, Aug. 17: A luncheon social will take place from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. The menu includes grilled chicken wraps with roasted red peppers, bacon and pesto mayonnaise, plus tomato-mozzarella salad, tri-color pasta, cookies and beverages. After lunch, the jazz duo Gene Pino and Paul Boehkme will perform. The cost is $7.
