The Westport Center for Senior Activities at 21 Imperial Ave. has announced the following programs.

Wednesday, Dec. 17: A clinical team from DaVita Kidney Care will present a free program on kidney health from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. The center said a registered nurse, dietitian and social worker would discuss how to keep kidneys healthy, plus the impact of diabetes, medications, hypertension, nutrition and risk factors.

DaVita operates more than 2,000 kidney dialysis centers nationwide.

Thursday, Dec. 18: A holiday lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m., featuring a menu of matzo ball soup, cucumber salad, beef brisket, potato latkes, carrots and honey cake. A chorus from Kings Highway School will sing holiday songs.

The center suggested a donation of $4 to $6

per meal, and eservations are required at least 24 hours before the lunch.

Friday, Dec. 19: History buff Art Gottlieb will give a free lecture from 6 to 7 p.m. on the Battle of Jutland, the longest naval clash of World War I. British and German naval forces fought in the figid North Sea off the Danish peninsula Jutland, the center said.

The fight was during the height of the battleship era, and debate continues today over who won.

Tuesday, Dec. 23: A holiday lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m., featuring a menu of vegetable chowder, tossed salad, Cornish game hen, acorn squash with cranberry, roasted potatoes and holiday cookies.

A Staples High School student will lead a holiday sing-along.
