Senior center announces events for upcoming week

The Westport Center for Senior Activities announces the following events for next week at its facility, 21 Imperial Ave.:
Class registration: Registration for second-quarter classes from April to June will begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday, March 11, for Westport residents. Out-of-town registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday, March 18. Any registration received after Saturday, March 30, will be subject to a $10 late fee.
Self-care: Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County will offer a "First Aid for Your Soul" workshop by licensed professional counselor Nanette Greene from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 11. Greene will discuss self-care and self-nurturance and how its practice is often neglected in daily life.
Brain health: National Wellness Consultant Adam Propper will discuss "Your Brain is Your Body: Getting the Most out of the New Science of Brain Health" from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 12. Propper is a board-certified chiropractor.
Back pain: Elina Ruhklin, a physical therapist from Rehabilitation Associates, will present statistics on back pain and physical therapy from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Ruhklin, who holds a doctor of physical therapy degree, will also give a brief overview of what physical therapy can do for back pain.
Taxes: AARP tax counselors will be available to help seniors with middle to low incomes complete their state and federal tax returns from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. every Wednesday through April 10. Consultations will be given by appointment only.
Deregulation: Robert DeRosa from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection will discuss "Deregulation of Electricity" in Connecticut from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, March 14. He will discuss picking an electrical supplier to lower monthly electric bills, as allowed by deregulation.
Healthy living: Holly Betts, a registered dietitian, will teach a cooking class on addressing the needs of easy, healthy cooking for singles or couples from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14. She will show how cooking can be fun with a meal consisting of Maryland seafood chowder and carrot ginger soup. The cost is $6.
