Two new school administrators were hired Monday by the Board of Education.
James D'Amico, currently the department chairman for social studies for grades 6 to 12, is the school district's new director of secondary education. He will replace Lis Comm, who is retiring at the end of this academic year.
She will take over from Cynthia Gilchrest, who is also retiring at the end of this school year.
Both D'Amico and Droller thanked the board for approving their promotions.
The board had been advertising for both positions in publications like the New York Times, and the job openings were also posted on the Board of Education website.
When the search for replacements began, board Chairwoman Elaine Whitney had said that in-house candidates would also be considered, saying the goal was to find the best person for the job.
Comm and Gilchrest are senior staffers with years of experience and were among the top 25 wage earners in the school system in 2013. They both were paid a salary of $179,841; the salaries their replacements will be paid was not immediately available.
