Jack Rhodes, who arrived three years ago to try to turn Western Connecticut State College's basketball team around, has resigned. . .

Jill Jugler's 30 points along with an effective trapping press in the second half, combined to give the Immaculate High girls basketball team a 64-61 win over Tolland in the first round of the CIAC Class M tournament. . .

Jeff Bush scored a game-high 20 points and Wayne Akins, playing his first game since Christmas, added 12 as Abbott Tech finished its regular season at 16-3 with a 68-44 win over Kaynor Tech. . .

Immaculate's Dave Osborne scored 31 points as the Mustangs defeated Bethel High, 61-53. . .

Bethel High's girls basketball team's state championship dreams came to an abrupt end as the top-seeded Wildcats fell to Branford, 51-46, in the preliminary round of the CIAC tournament. . .

Six-foot-seven senior Bill Wilkison's clutch shooting led Newtown High to a 58-52 overtime victory over Abbott Tech in the brutally-waged opener of the Western Connecticut Conference semi-finals. . .

SUNY-Purchase was leading Western Connecticut State 31-15 with 5 minutes left in the first half last night (Feb. 19, 1981). The lights started to flicker in the SUNY gym and then went completely dark before play could restart. When the lights came back on after about 15 minutes had passed, the Colonials gradually gained the upper hand and dominated play in the second half to pull out a 67-61 victory, the third time they have beaten Purchase this season.
