Last Saturday the Westport Parks and Recreation Department sponsored the fourth race of the 2015 Road Runners series with a 4.1 mile run starting at Compo Beach. Kevin Hoyt, of Newtown, continued his winning ways as he won his third straight race with a time of 21:24. He led 179 runners in the race. Hoyt’s time, however, was well off the course record of 20:35 set by Westport’s Roy Mascolino in 1983.

Also continuing to win was the first woman finisher, Kate Pfeffer, of Westport in 13th place overall with the time of 24:50. Pfeffer, who also won her third straight race, ran a time that was also short of the women’s course record of 23:05 set by Cindy Mironovich, of Darien in 1984.

Second and third places in the men’s division in Saturday’s race were awarded to Spencer Brown, of Wilton, and Luke McCambley, of Westport, with respective times of 21:25 and 22:16. Second and third places in the women’s division were awarded to Mary Dolan-Zengo, of Wilton, in 15th place and Kristin Curran, of Fairfield, in 13th place with the respective times of 25:08 and 27:44. Tom Harding, sixth in 24:02, was the only other Westport-Weston resident who finished in the top 10.

The next scheduled Road Runners race will be held on Saturday, August 1st at 8 a.m. with a 4.7 mile race starting at Longshore Club Park. The runners will start at the pool and tennis parking lot and finish in front of the tennis and pool pavilion.
