Last Saturday the Westport Parks and Recreation Department sponsored the third race of the 2015 Road Runners series with a 3.8 mile run starting at Longshore Club Park. Despite heavy rain, Kevin Hoyt, of Newtown, won his second straight Road Runners race as he led 191 runners over the scenic course with the time of 20:51. Hoyt’s time was well off the course record of 19:06 set by Dave Peterson of Fairfield in 1981.

The first woman to finish was Westport’s Kate Pfeffer, 11th overall with the time of 23:47. Pfeffer, who also won her second straight race, ran a time that was also short of the women’s course record of 22:16 set by Kerri Lyons, of Wilton, in 2014.

Second and third places in the men’s division were awarded to James Osborne, of Ridgefield, and Daniel Lennox, of Darien, with respective times of 21:21 and 21:33. Second and third places in the women’s division were awarded to Caroline Murray of New Canaan and Eliza Tabacchi of Weston in twenty-ninth place with respective times of 24:36 and 26:06.

The next scheduled Road Runners race will be held on Saturday, July 25 at 8:00 a.m. with a 4.1 mile race starting at the Compo Beach entrance. The record for the 4.1 mile run of 20:35 was set by Roy Mascolino, of Westport, in 1983. The women’s record of 23:05 was set by Cindy Mironovich, of Darien, in 1984.

All interested persons are invited to participate in this program. Applications for and information about the Road Runners program are available at the recreation offices at Longshore Club Park, at the start of each Saturday’s race or at the Program’s website located at westportroadrunners.org
