Ridgefield girls shine at New England meet

Boston, Mass. - The Ridgefield High girls track field team had five girls earn All-New England honors at the New England Track Championships Friday night at the Reggie Lewis Track Center in Boston.

The all senior 4x800 meter relay of Leah Rosenfeld, Elly Teitsworth, Katie Murdoch and EmilyHeaslip finished second to Westerly, Rhode Island in that event.

Westerly, anchored by Samantha Gawrych, currently ranked second fastest in the United States at 600 meters, finished with a time of 9:16.52.

Ridgefield's time was 9:21.88, with Rosenfeld running a 2:17.1 split, followed by Teitsworth (2:27.6), Murdoch (2:18.5), and Heaslip (2:18.7).

Rosenfeld, State Open champion in the 1600, came back to finish third in the mile with a time of 5:09.01. The race was won by top-seeded Colleen Wetherbee of Dennis-Yarmouth, Mass., with Keely Maguire of Triton, Mass. taking second.

In the two mile, Connecticut State Open 3,200 champion Heather Stephens, a sophomore, finished fifth, with a time of 11:06.98. The event was won by Erin Lagasse of Cranston, Rhode Island, in 11:00.56.

Senior T.J. Brennan lead the Ridgefield boys runners, earning All-New England honors with a third place finish (first from Connecticut) in the 600 with a time of 1:23.14. Senior Josh Kearns just missed All-New England with a seventh place finish in the mile, with a time of 4:25.09.

Senior Kellan Quigley finished 10th in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:36.17.

Danbury boys shine: The Hatters placed in the top five in three events at the New Englands.

In the 4x200 relay, the team of senior Mark Cimino, senior Joe Lucchesi, sophmore Nick Rosa and junior David Best took fifth place with a time of 1:33.52.

Sophmore Willie Ahearn placed third in the one mile run with a time of 4:21.83.

Cimino placed fourth in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.60.
