There was a slim-to-none chance that the threatening skies would hold off Friday long enough to allow an outdoor performance by River City Slim & The Zydeco Hogs at the Levitt Pavilion.
Sure enough, afternoon rains, blostered by a forecast of more nighttime storms, forced the performance to move indoors to Saugatuck School.
No matter. The performance was just as smokin' hot.
The group was joined by Chris "Otis" Cross, a Fairfielder and front man of Otis & The Hurricanes, who performed vocals and guitar, complementing Slim's drumming and the Hogs' fiddle, accordion, bass and vocals.
Slim is a longtime Blues fan who took up Zydeco-style music in 1990. The Hogs each have their own pedigrees, which include stints with industry greats like Luther "Guitar Jr." Johnson and festival appearances. The group launched in 1999 and has toured East Coast festivals, while making stops at regional performance venues like Levitt Pavilion.
The group's current CD is titled "It's Hot in Here!" on the Hog Heaven Records label.
