The Representative Town Meeting will meet 8 p.m. today in Town Hall to deliberate and vote on an appeal of the much-debated Text Amendment 621, adopted to tighten regulations on residential lot coverage.

The amendment, which mandates new building coverage regulations for residential properties, has provoked debate since it was passed last month by the Planning and Zoning Commission.

During a meeting last week that lasted about five hours, the RTM's Planning and Zoning Committee endorsed an appeal from residents calling for the amendment's repeal. That endorsement, however, does not bind committee members to vote a certain way when the issue comes before the full RTM tonight.

Overturning Text Amendment 621 would require the vote of two-thirds of the RTM's 36 members. If the appeal does not win that many votes, Text Amendment 621 will take effect Feb. 14.
