The U.S. Postal Service's box unit in Saugatuck will be relocating -- but not to the site initially planned.

The postal facility, now based in a trailer at 20 Saugatuck Ave., will be moving to a permanent space at 25 Franklin St., according to a letter from Joseph J. Mulvey, real estate specialist for the Postal Service, to First Selectman Gordon Joseloff.

Mulvey wrote on Jan. 23 that the Franklin Street site has been selected after the initial plan to locate permanently on Saugatuck Avenue could not be arranged.

"We believe this new site will provide the community with an efficient, modern facility that offers a safe working environment for our employees and a level of service expected by our customers," Mulvey said of the Franklin site.

Comments on the 25 Franklin St. location for the postal box unit can be submitted to the Postal Service over the next 30 days; they should be addressed to Mulvey's attention at 2 Congress St., Room 8, Milford, MA 01757.
