James Mapes, an executivre coach, hypnotist and behaviorist, will talk about methods to reduce stress and maintain a positive outlook during a program at the Westport Library on Monday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m.
The program, "Mind Over Body -- Harness Vision to Create a Wellness Strategy," is free and open to the public in the McManus Room.
Mapes is a practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, which holds that behavioral patterns are learned through experience and that the brain can be reprogrammed to achieve specific goals in life.
Some scientists, however, call NLP "pseudoscience" and claim use of the word "neuro" in the method's name falsely suggests scientific validity.
In Mapes' presentations, the library said, he draws on his three decades of experience as a clinical hypnotist, NLP practitioner, medical facilitator and executive coach, as well as his personal experience having open-heart surgery.
