BRIDGEPORT -- A man was ejected from his pick up after the vehicle struck safety barrels at the top of an I-95 exit ramp early Sunday.

Michael Ignatowski, 41, of Bridgeport, was fleeing from police when the crash occurred, according to the State Police accident report. Ignatowski was unconscious on the roadway after his Ford Ranger struck the yellow and orange "bumpers.''

The suspect had gotten onto the highway a short time earlier and had crossed from the center lane to exit when the crash occurred, police said. Charges against Ignatowski are pending, State Police said. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Bridgeport police had observed the suspect behaving suspiciously at 2:40 a.m. near Stratford Avenue and Hollister Avenue, and attempted to pull him over, spokesman William Kaempffer said. When he entered the highway State Police picked up the pursuit.
