Westport's Peachwave has come to fruition. The franchise frozen yogurt shop got a warm reception from local "fro-yo" fans when it opened Friday at 170 Post Road West, across from Kings Highway Elementary School.

"It's amazing," said Sarah Slavkin, 9, who was among the first to sample the selection of 16 self-serve flavors and many more toppings.

"I like all the great flavors, and especially the vanilla," she said.

There are 72 other Peachwave frozen yogurt shops around the U.S., Canada and the Cayman Islands. Westport's franchise is owned by a group called Redding Railroad.

"We're just really excited," said Gregg Roberts, president of the ownership group. "We've been trying to get to Westport for a while."

"It's basically about people coming in and enjoying themselves," said Larry Rosen, Peachwave district manager.

Sixteen kinds of frozen yogurt are featured on a rotating menu of flavors, including coconut, cookies 'n' cream, bubble gum, eggnog, green tea, guava, peach, pistachio and pomegranate. Plus, nearly 60 toppings and syrups are available.

"It's self-serve frozen yogurt with multiple toppings," Rosen said.

"The fruit flavors are really good," said Jennifer Grin, who was among the first to sample Peachwave's fare on Friday.

"It's all good," said her friend, Deborah Phillips.
