The Appalachian Mountain Club's Connecticut chapter will host a talk by member Jay Vivian at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Saugatuck Congregational Church, 245 Post Road East.

Wine and appetizers will be served at 6:15 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.

Vivian, an adventure traveler, will make an audio-visual presentation titled "The Kiwi Zone -- Adventures in New Zealand." He will describe a 22-day club trip there last March that included visits to a number of national parks, a clockwise traipse around much of South Island and an earthquake-aborted attempt to visit Christchurch.

Admission cost, which will be accepted at the door only, is $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Attendees are asked to bring a dessert to share.

The nonprofit club, which has grown to more than 100,000 members since being founded in 1876, promotes the protection, enjoyment and stewardship of the of the Appalachian region.
