There's lots of buzz about the newest house constructed by Sir Development. The Westport company has built more than 100 luxury homes in the last two decades, but the colonial house at 6 Bumble Bee Lane serves as the launch of Sir Development's "Signature Homes."
According to the company's print material, "Signature Homes combines renowned architects, sophisticated designers and detailed project management" to allow today's luxury homebuyer the opportunity to create their one-of-a-kind home, putting their own signature on it.
It includes premier locations with detailed site and vista planning and personal service from an in-house design team.
Built in 2013, this 6,275-square-foot home sits on a private, level property of 1.03 acre at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac in the Red Coat section of Westport.
Bumble Bee Lane is a private road with a wooden street sign that could be easy to miss. But don't miss a chance to see this house.
A long driveway leads to a bluestone path that takes visitors to the long, covered front porch.
Stepping inside, the first hint that this house is not the typical colonial is visible in the finish of the hardwood floors, which are stained grey. Recessed paneling decorates the walls of the two-story foyer.
This house features large rooms and a great flow.
The formal living room has a honed marble fireplace and three oversized, four-over-one double-hung windows that allow for easy viewing of the natural surroundings. There is a hallway between the living room and an office or study or library, and at the end is a powder room.
A spacious family room has an exposed beam ceiling but they are painted white rather than natural-colored wood.
The yellow brick fireplace has a honed marble surround. This room opens to the even more spacious gourmet kitchen, which features a breakfast room, white marble on the counters and the center island, marble backsplash, a built-in desk area, a large stainless sink and white cabinets -- some of which have glass-front doors.
The center island mirrors the decorative millwork of the custom cabinets.
This island also houses a circular stainless prep sink and breakfast bar that accommodates four stools.
Appliances include a Wolf six-burner range with a griddle and pot filler, 48-inch Sub-Zero refrigerator, and Asko dishwasher.
In the butler's pantry between the kitchen and formal dining room, there is a GE beverage refrigerator. The butler's pantry has a mirrored, beveled glass-tile backsplash. The dining room has a coffered ceiling.
The eat-in area has French doors to a bluestone patio and backyard.
Rounding out the first floor is a large mudroom with a walk-in pantry, cubby areas, stone floor and a half bath.
On the second floor, the master bedroom suite is like a private retreat including a spa-like marble master bath. In the bedroom, there is a tray ceiling, marble fireplace with a patterned yellow brick firebox, a sitting room with its own tray ceiling and his and her walk-in closets.
The master bath has a soaking tub, water closet, vanity table and another vanity with two sinks and built-in drawers. In another wing of the second floor, there are four more bedrooms, two of which share a Jack-and-Jill-style bath.
In the hallway, there is a homework or computer area with a built in desk, shelves, drawers and cork board.
A sixth bedroom is on the third floor of the finished, walk-up attic, which also features a large media or play room.
There are window seats and a full bath on this level.
There will be an open house on Sunday, March 3, 1 to 3 p.m.
