WEST HAVEN -- Police are searching for a missing infant and her father, who were last seen Wednesday afternoon.

Aaliyah Barrett was last seen with her father, Vaughn Barrett, on Bull Hill Lane in Orange at about 12:30 p.m., at his wife's job, said Officer David Tammaro, the police department spokesman.

"Barrett reportedly was going to take the bus to a store then pick up some items before returning home,'' Tammaro said.

The family has no known relatives or friends in the area, police said, and no known medical issues.

Vaughan Barrett has disappeared in the past and resurfaced days later with no explanation, Tammaro said in a press release, but never with the infant girl.

Area hospitals and the state Department of Children and Families has been notified, and a Silver Alert has been issued, the police spokesman said.

Barrett and his baby daughter were still missing as of 8 a.m., but police were able to trace his cell phone and believe that he is in the New Haven area. The New Haven police are assisting West Haven officers in the search, Tammaro said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Haven police at (203) 937-3900.
