The musket of the iconic Minute Man statue, on South Compo Road, points in the direction of Minute Man Hill, perhaps as a hint that the trip to the top of that street is worth the climb.

There, at the top of the cul-de-sac, at 14 Minute Man Hill, sits a contemporary colonial with a nautical flare, and fittingly so since it is in the Compo Beach area of town and there are views of Long Island Sound from the master bedroom and bath. Two small, divided pane, oval windows on the front façade and natural-colored bead board ceilings and backsplashes throughout the house lend to the nautical feeling.

The house is an easy bike ride to Compo Beach and Longshore Club Park, both of which allow for numerous recreational activities.

Built in 1990, this house has 5,618 square feet of living space above grade and another 2,983 below grade in the full, finished, heated, walk-out basement.

A wide bluestone path leads to the covered front entrance, which is punctuated by a keystone. This feature is repeated in the interior above several doorways as another unifying element.

There are double doors at the front entrance, allowing for easy transport of furniture in or out of the house. These doors are framed by a transom and sidelights.

Inside, there are transoms above every first-floor door and window, flooding the house with an abundance of natural light.

In the open foyer, the first visible feature is a wall of natural-colored bead board, which serves as the framework for the staircase and adds to the feeling that one is in a large ship. In this area of the house, there is also a powder room with a marble floor.

There is one open great room, 54 feet in length, which was architecturally designed in such a way that it has flexibility in its use.

It has a coffered ceiling, a wall of windows and three sets of French doors that all access the large wrap-around, covered porch. It can easily be divided into three separate living areas: living room, dining room and sitting room.

The area that would house the living room has the only fireplace of the house.

It has a granite surround and natural-colored wood mantle. Also in this section of the open floor plan are built-in bookshelves and cabinets.

In the area that would serve as the dining room, there is a built-in buffet with granite counters, raised-panel cabinetry, bead-board backsplash and a bar area also; it is not a wet bar.

The kitchen is divided into two large areas that are almost like having two separate kitchens: one for preparation and clean-up and one for cooking and entertaining because it opens to the family room.

The family room has French doors to the wrap-around porch. The prep kitchen is like a large butler's pantry with a large rectangular, stainless sink, numerous cabinets and a KitchenAid dishwasher.

The cooking kitchen features a center island that houses the Jenn-Air four-burner range top with a griddle and two Jenn-Air ovens.

There a many more cabinets in this kitchen as well. A bump-out bay provides a breakfast or casual eating area.

Rounding out the first floor is another flexible room. It could be used as an office, study or library but because it also has a closet and its own full bath, it could be a guest room.

On the second floor, there are four bedrooms, including a large master bedroom suite, complete with French doors to a private balcony, his-and-hers dressing rooms, his-and-hers baths, a linen closet and four additional closets with double-mirrored doors.

One of the other bedrooms has a sitting alcove.
