On the market: Cozy cottage feel

The house at 7 Olmstead Court in New Canaan is so convenient to town, and yet placed in an ideal setting on a tiny cul-de-sac and off another quiet road, where one gets the best of both worlds.
The 1940 Cape with two wide gables atop has a big brick chimney on the right side that is painted white to meld with the pale yellow wood side -- with a white picket fence to complete the picture. The three first-story windows all have boxes too, adding to the cozy cottage feel.
Up the slate path, the door opens into a living room with a fireplace. The far wall has a complete built-in shelf and cabinet combination, split by a glass door that leads out to a corner patio deck.
Left of the entrance, a hall passes to the bottom of the stairs and leads to a small dignified dining room, which benefits from its center chandelier.
Circling into a long hall a variety of spaces open all at once. To the right, a hall circles back to the living room, along with a half bathroom and the door to the original finished basement.

On the left, a glass door separates a large laundry-mudroom combination, with a large stone tile floor and another door opposite separating the new west-side wing.
There's an entrance here off the short driveway, where a separate one-car garage abuts the left side of the property. A small office room is off this area, opposite of which is an open arch to the kitchen.
The kitchen is large, and features ample family space, with a slate and stone fireplace.
French doors step out to a small gravel garden, a raised flagstone patio behind the garage, and a small stamp of private yard that looks over a tiny stream running along the south of the property.
The kitchen is centered around a large island with dark green stone counters throughout. There's a five-burner gas stove, built-in fridge and tons of cabinets. On the east side of the kitchen a sliding door opens on to a corner patio.
Stairs off the kitchen lead to a window that overlooks the corner patio. There are lots of trees around the property, giving it substantial privacy despite the somewhat concentrated neighborhood.
Upstairs, the original section of the house has an east-side bedroom with wide sash windows and vintage door handles.
The hall leads back past a bathroom and another bedroom before stepping into the well-blended addition.
Here is a small bedroom, then, another step up, a master with a high ceiling, a fan and a large walk-in closet and bathroom, which features a double sink and spa tub.
