On the website www.architecture.about.com, the Arts-and-Crafts Movement is defined as one that “celebrated handicrafts and encouraged the use of simple forms and natural materials.” It began in England in the 1880s with the vision of several renaissance men, among them Victorian-era art and architecture critic John Ruskin, textile designer and poet William Morris and architect Philip Webb.

The house was built in 2009 by the current owners, who achieved their own vision by creating a 7,100-square-foot, three-level living space that is at once grand and casual.
