Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, through Saturday, Nov. 17. Discounts are availabe to senior citizens for the Nov. 15 performance.
The play, with music by Richard Rodgers and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, is based on the play "Green Grow the Lilacs," by Lynn Riggs. The production is directed by David Roth and his wife, Kerry Long, and Adam Mirkine, student assistant director and president of Staples Players.
"Now that the process has started and the show is coming together, both actors and techies alike have really learned to appreciate the incredible work of Rodgers and Hammerstein," Mirkine said in a news release.
"Her toughness and practicality weren't appreciated as much in that time period," said Ressler, commenting on how Laurey's character would fare today as a Staples student. "If Laurey went to Staples, she'd still be just as tough and independent, but she wouldn't seem so different from other girls, and she would be admired for those qualities, rather than teased."
Other cast members include Tyler Jent playing Will Parker; Will Smith playing Judd Fry, and junior Maddy Rozynek playing Ado Annie Carnes.
The production team includes Peter Barbieri Jr. and Dave Seltzer, technical directors; Carrie Masacro, pit orchestra conductor; Priscilla Stampa and Marjorie Watt, costume design; Don Rickenback, choral director, and Andrea Metchick, choreography.
The set was designed by Barbieri and Chris Smalley choreographed the fight scenes.
The Staples Players, which last performed "Oklahoma!" in 1995, will present the play by special arrangement with the Rodgers and Hammerstein Theatre Library in New York City.
Tickets are available for $15, $10 for students at www.staplesplayers.com and also will be available at the door, as available, 30 minutes prior to the show. Cash or checks only will be accepted at the door.
