Norton D. Smiley, of Silver Spring, Md., and a former Westport resident, the husband of Harriet Flott Smiley, died Dec. 30, 2010, at home.

Born in Fountain Hill, Pa., he was the son of E. Kenneth Smiley and Gertrude (Dunlap) Smiley. He attended Virginia Military Institute and graduated from Moravian College, Bethlehem, Pa. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965, where he attained the rank of specialist.

He retired after many years in the computer industry with IBM, Fujitsu, Informatics, Waldenbooks and Sagemaker. He had been a member of Assumption Church in Westport, serving as a eucharistic minister for many years.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of 44 years, include five sons, Colin (Jennifer) of Austin, Texas, Brian (Susan) of Langhorne, Pa., Brendan (Katrina) of Burleson, Texas, Devin (Christi Crovato) of Oceanside, Calif., and Kieran (Bo Bortner) of San Diego, Calif.; sisters, Maureen Smiley Gross of Conway, S.C., and Marcia Smiley Kung of Philadelphia, Pa.; 12 grandchildren, Rose, Aidan, Anna, Seamus, Tessa, Andrew, Harrison, Corrigan, Declan, Emeline, Mary Katherine and Callum, as well as nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will take place at 1 p.m. Friday in St. Patrick's Church, Rockville, Md. Burial will be private.
