WESTPORT — The Westport Center for Senior Acitivities recently announced a new lineup of classes for the summer.

The Center is offering a class on the new trend of “Coloring for Adults”. Coloring is an activity that we tend to associate with children. However, it turns out coloring can be beneficial for adults — namely for its de-stressing power. Coloring stimulates areas of the brain related to motor skills, the senses, and creativity. Coloring books will be provided by Synergy Homecare and the Center will provide the pencils. Local artist, Joyce Olson will be instructing the class. This class will meet on Mondays starting July 11 through July 25 from 10:30 to noon. The cost is a materials fee of $5 and pre-registration and payment are required.

The Center will be offering a new class titled Writing Toolbox. This is a four session writing workshop designed to get you started, unblocked or moving ahead on your writing project. Whether you have a particular project in mind or simply want to jumpstart your own creative process, this workshop will help you accomplish your goals. Weekly evening meetings provide support and guidance, in addition to the tools and steps to meet each individual’s needs. All levels of experience are welcome. Jan Basin, a writing coach and consultant, and former Marketing Director at Roth Publishing will be teaching this class. This class will meet Thursdays from July 7 to July 28 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. The cost is $16 and pre-registration and payment are required.

Local artist and adjunct professor at the University of Bridgeport will be conducting a new class titled Creative Convening with Collage. Collage can be a springboard to creativity. Students will learn about composition, materials, uses for found objects and art history. This class will meet on Mondays from July 11 through Aug. 1 from 1 to 3:00 p.m. The cost is $16 and pre-registration and payment are required.
