CLINTON -- The New Fairfield High girls basketball team gave one of its best defensive efforts of the year to earn a 45-30 victory over Morgan in the second round of the Class M state tournament Thursday night.

The 12th-seeded Rebels held No. 5 Morgan to two field goals and 12 points in the second half.

"Our defense was the story of the game," said New Fairfield coach Joe Russo . "It was a great team effort on defense. We also had balanced scoring on offense."

Teresa Hart led the Rebels with 11 points. Dona Dika , Abbey Fedigan and Vicky Vitale all chipped in with nine points apiece.

The Rebels advance to the quarterfinals where they will face No. 4 Windham on Wednesday at a time ans site to be determined.
