WESTPORT — The 21st annual Spring Gala of Near & Far Aid, which raises money to support the region’s anti-poverty programs, will take place March 4 at Mitchells of Westport.
The event starts at 7 p.m. in the store, 670 Post Road East.
The fundraiser features dinner, cocktails, fashions and dancing, and with the theme, “Voices of Hope,” will also focus on “stories of the individuals served and the agencies that Near & Far Aid funds throughout the year,” according to publicity for the gala.
Near & Far Aid, a volunteer group, provides funding for 100 agencies and programs in Fairfield County working to eradicate issues that cause poverty, according to a press statement. Since 2000, Near & Far Aid said, it has granted more than $15 million toward that cause.
“The Near & Far Aid Gala at Mitchells is going to be a fabulous party this year with a great band, dancing, delicious food and drinks and the best auction anywhere,” Joan Panagos, president of Near & Far Aid, said in publicity for the event. “It is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and the money we raise goes to help fund programs that fight poverty and improve the lives of those in need in Fairfield County.”
There will also be bidding on auction items that include: VIP tickets to the 2016 Wimbledon’s ladies finals with hotel accommodations and “fashion experience;” 2016 Jingle Ball tickets; a year of unlimited dry cleaning from Fabricare Cleaners; four club seats to a New England Patriots game; four tickets to the Kids’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles; “A Handbag for Every Season” provided by Mitchells of Westport, and a trip to surf camp in Costa Rica.
“As a family, we strongly believe in giving back to the community and that is why our Near & Far Aid partnership is synergistic,” Bob Mitchell, co-CEO of Mitchells of Westport, said in the release. “We truly appreciate all the hard work of everyone in the organization.”
