Members of Westport churches and synagogues plan to host a National Day of Prayer event from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, May 2, on Veterans Green across from Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Ave.

The ceremony will take place as part of the 62nd annual National Day of Prayer, an annual day of observance enacted by Congress in 1952.

Participants will have an opportunity to offer prayers of thanksgiving, repentance, and blessing over the town and nation's government and heritage, military and first responders, commerce and community and family and schools.

The prayer focus for this year's event is to pray for the Jewish people and the nation of Israel.
