A four-vehicle accident left three drivers with injuries and closed two northbound lanes of traffic on Interstate 95 just before rush hour Friday afternoon near the Westport-Fairfield border.

The accident, reported at approximately 3 p.m., took place between exits 18 and 19. The left and center lanes were shut down for approximately an hour while emergency crews tended to the passengers. Westport firefighters provided initial care and then turned three of the drivers over to Westport EMS and AMR, which transported the individuals to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport.

While State Police investigated and directed traffic around the scene, firefighters cleaned up spilled fluids and assisted the tow trucks with clearing the vehicles from the roadway.
