The cheers just keep coming for Westport's champion Little League All-Stars.
On Monday, the latest to salute the magical season compiled by the team was the state's chief executive, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, who invited the boys and their coaches to an afternoon reception at the Executive Mansion in Hartford.
The team, which dispensed with their usual uniforms for "civilian" attire while meeting the governor, drew praise for their record of winning Little League's New England championship and earning a berth in the Little League World Series last month. At the Williamsport, Pa., classic, the Westporters won their won all the way to U.S. title game before falling to the California team.
Malloy's congratulations followed a dizzying round of tributes to Westport's boys of summer, which have included an appearance on ESPN's "SportsCenter" from the cable network's Bristol studios, and a special invitation from the New York Yankees to appear at their Bronx ballpark.
