The Town of New Canaan Emergency operations center (EOC) has been fully activated and all emergency staff, headed by First Selectman Jeb Walker and Emergency Management Director David Jonker are coordinating recovery efforts from last nights storm. Approximately 65% of the town is without power due the countless trees that have blown down, taking power lines with them and closing many roads and driveways.

The EOC is coordinating with CL&P to open all roads to emergency vehicles as the first priority. Followed by power restoration on a most-served basis. At this time CL&P estimates that they will have power restored to 90% of the town by tomorrow (Monday) night. If you are without power please notify CL&P at 1-800-286-2000.

Superintendant of Schools Davis Abby has already closed all schools and activities for Monday and is being kept apprised of the on-going clean-up. Private schools are closed as well.

At this point residents are urged to stay in their homes due to the numerous road closures accompanied by down power lines that are potentially still energized. The danger cannot be over emphasized. If you must clear down branches check for power lines first. Always assume they are energized unless told otherwise by CL&P!

Residents are urged to keep their cell phones charged if they are with out power so 911 can be called in an emergency. For storm related questions please call 203-594-4102.

New Canaan Town Hall will be opened as a warming center.

The Emergency management team will be meeting again at 1:00 pm and a further update will be made available after that meeting.
