Saturday's balmy weather marking the Winter Solstice may have seemed more appropriate for the first day of spring, but the Christmas holiday spirit was in the air -- and shared by shoppers -- at the last pre-Christmas session for the Westport Winter Farmers Market.
The weekly winter market, based at Gilbertie's, 7 Sylvan Lane, offered holiday treats like traditional German stollen bread wrapped in Christmas paper from SoNo Baking Co.; Arogya turmeric ginger tea bubbled in hot pots, and chicken potpies and holiday flan decorated a tabletop by Du Soleil.
Victoria Filimon, of Sankow's Beaver Brook Farm, displayed sheep's wool hats, socks, scarves and vests. Boxcar Cantina's containers of salsa, guacamole and tortilla soup beckoned with red and green hues.
Also on offer was farm fare like sprouts grown by Two Guys from Woodbridge, packages of meat from Saugatuck Craft Butchery, end-of-the-year vegetables from Sport Hill Farm, brownies by Huckleberries Artisan Pastries, seafood trekked from Rhode Island by the Local Catch, health juices from The Stand, and cheese from Beltane Farm of Lebanon.
