McKinney is Westport favorite in GOP primary despite statewide loss to Foley

Even though state Sen. John McKinney, whose family has a long legacy in Westport, easily carried the local vote in Tuesday's primary for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, his rival Tom Foley went on to win the GOP's nod statewide to take on Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in November.

The turnout of registered Republicans in town was 19.6 percent.

The Westport tallies in the Republican gubernatorial contest and two other state offices are:

- Governor

Tom Foley: 285

John McKinney: 572

- Lieutenant governor

Penny Bacchiochi: 157

Heather Somers: 319

David Walker: 352

- Comptroller

Angel Cadena: 244

Sharon McLaughlin: 465
