An apparently intoxicated Easton man was charged with injuring another man who tried to help him and his girlfriend Sunday night, police said.

Steven Batis, 57, of Mile Common in Easton, struck a man in the face who had tried to provide assistance about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the report, and then became combative with police officers called to the scene.

Batis was charged with third-degree assault, breach of peace and interfering with an officer.

Bond was set at $5,000 and he is scheduled to appear July 30 in Norwalk Superior Court.
