Theodore J. Kelhoffer, 24, of Lafayette Drive in Trumbull, was charged early Saturday with driving under the influence after officers observed him driving with his headlights off on Riverside Avenue, according to the police report.
When an officer approached the vehicle, he said he noticed that Kelhoffer had red, glassy eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. Asked where he was headed, Kelhoffher said, "a friend's house," according to the report, and told officers that he had left Viva Zapata's restaurant where he had "four beers."
He failed field sobriety tests and had two blood-alcohol counts -- 0.179 and 0.173 -- more than twice the legal limit of 0.08, police said.
Kelhoffer was released on $500 bond is scheduled to appear June 3 in Norwalk Superior Court.
