James Adrian, 51, of Signal Lane, was charged Tuesday night with driving under the influence.
Adrian drove through a red traffic light on Post Road East while an officer was stopped behind Adrian at the red light, police said.
Once Adrian was stopped, the officer smelled a "strong odor" of alcohol on Adrian's breath, according to the report. Adrian also failed a field sobriety test, police said.
He was charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol and failure to obey a control signal. He was released on $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Feb. 7 in Norwalk Superior Court.
