A Wilton man was charged with driving under the influence last Friday after crashing into a stone wall on Weston Road.

Brian Schoonmaker, 29, of Catalpa Road in Wilton, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol in connection with the incident about 9:30 p.m. last Friday.

Schoonmaker’s vehicle suffered heavy front-end damage after striking the stone wall, police said. He was still in the driver’s seat when officers arrived on the scene, and after being questioned, “it was apparent that the person was under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” police said. Schoonmaker was unable to follow the officer’s request to put the vehicle in park and almost struck another vehicle, according to the report.

He failed field sobriety tests, police said, and was taken into custody. Bond was set at $500 and Schoonmaker is scheduled to appear Sept. 14 at state Superior Court in Norwalk.
