A 22-year-old Washington Avenue man was charged Monday with assault after what police described as a domestic dispute with a woman.

James Radcliffe Jr. was charged with third-degree assault and interfering with an officer in connection with the incident.

Officers were dispatched to a Washington Avenue residence about 8:30 p.m. Monday to investigate a report that an injured person was sitting outside the dwelling. After determining the woman was hurt in a dispute, Radcliffe was also found on the scene but, according to the report, would not comply with officers’ requests.

He was, however, subsequently taken into custody on the assault charge “based upon the physical evidence present,” as well as statements made to officers during their investigation, according to the report.

Bond was set at $1,000 and Radcliffe was scheduled to appear Friday at state Superior Court in Norwalk.
