The state chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is seeking volunteers to help with its Sunday, June 9, bicycling fundraiser that will start and at Sherwood Island State Park.
The fundraiser features rides of 10, 25, 50 and 80 miles along the Connecticut shoreline. Last year it attracted 950 riders and raised $500,000, organizers said. This year's goal is $539,000.
The state chapter said 6,000 Connecticut residents are afflicted with MS, for which there is no cure and no known cause.
Proceeds from the ride will fund research to find better treatments and a cure, as well as help to provide programs and services for those living with the disease, the organization said.
