The Westport-based literacy initiative Books2Connect has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the TD Charitable Foundation to help put books in the hands of poor children, the group announced. The group promotes literacy by collecting and distributing gently used books. In a news release, the 2-year-old group said it has distributed 3,000 books through 21 organizations to children in Bridgeport, Darien, Hartford, New Britain, New Haven, Norwalk and Stamford
The literacy group was created by UJA/Federation in partnership with the Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce and Norwalk Community College. The volunteer organization is chaired by three Westport women, Indy Goldberg, Beth Rand and Sandy Rappaport.
