To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Westport Schools Permanent Art Collection, the Westport Library will host an exhibit in its Great Hall entitled, "Face to Face: Portraits from WSPAC as It Turns 50." The exhibit, featuring more than 20 portraits from the collection, will run from March 28 through June 25.

The late artist, art historian and Greens Farms art teacher Burt Chernow founded the Westport Schools Permanent Art Collection because he believed that Westport's students should be exposed to original art, just as they are exposed to written and performed works of art. Since the first donation in 1964, WSPAC has grown to more than 1,300 pieces. Many of these works are exhibited in Westport's schools and town buildings since the goal of WSPAC is to make art an integral part of the daily lives of students, teachers and all Westporters.

There will be an opening reception for the library exhibit on Friday, April 4, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the library's Great Hall.

Programming in conjunction with the exhibit will include a guided tour of the collection on Saturday, May 10, from 1 to 4 .p.m. Reservations will be required. Additional programs celebrating the exhibit will include a docent-led tour and discussion of the "Face to Face" exhibit, and a portrait workshop for middle-school children. Other programs will be planned.
