The Distractions, a Connecticut-based band that covers songs by a variety of rock groups, kick off the final summer weekend of free entertainment on Jesup Green with a free concert Friday night.
The 8 p.m. show is part of the of the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts summer series, which winds down with free concerts on Saturday night and Sunday night, also on Jesup Green.
On Saturday at 8 p.m., the Wendy May, Jerry Vigorito, Tracy James All-Star Band will perform.
The Fairfield Counts wrap up the Levitt's free season on Sunday at 7 p.m. with a concert of big-band classics.
On Friday night, the Distractions will cover songs by the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, the Kinks, the Cars, the Talking Heads and others, the Levitt said in a news release. According to the news release, the band recorded songs for an award-winning film and an Emmy-nominated TV show, but the Levitt did not name either screen title, nor does the band's website.
Band members include Jay Cosgrove on drums and vocals, Bill Dannhauser on key boards and vocals, Harvey Newquist on guitar and vocals, Rob Lynch on bass and Tom Odinak on guitar, according to the release.
On Saturday night, the May-Vigorito-James show will feature a seven-piece band featuring members of Connecticut-based bands -- Bone Dry, the Big Bad Band, Band Together CT and the Wendy May Band.
Vigorito has headed bands that played for charitable causes and wwas presented the Fairfield County Chapter of the American Red Cross' Hero Award for Public Impact. The veteran performer May has performed with Charlie Daniels, Kenny Chesney, Willie Nelson and other A-list musicians, the Levitt said. James' Big Bad Band plays classic rock.
Also on the group's playlist are big-band numbers from the 1920s and 1980s, according to the release.
At the Sunday concert, donations of canned or dry foods will be collected for the Westport Woman's Club's Food Closet, which provides food to the needy in Westport through the town Department of Human Services.
